Primary Preschool Program

“The hands are the instruments of man’s intelligence.”

– Maria Montessori

Our Primary Pre-School Program Philosophy

The ages three to six are the initial stages of development. The individual personalities, interests, likes and dislikes of children are, at this age, fully expressed by the child themselves- in their own independent manner.

In recognition of this, the MCC Preschool Program, more specifically referred to as our Primary Program approaches the child as the smart, grown, and intelligent individuals they are.

Children in this preschool class can be as young as 3 years old, if they are potty trained and ready for the program.

Areas of Focus in the Classroom

Practical Life

Practical Life activities are the foundation of the Montessori Method and plays a vital role in the development of various areas in a child such as Concentration, Large and Fine motor coordination, following the step-by-step process and directions. They teach children to care for themselves and care for the environment helping them to become more independent. Children learn the language, social skills needed to practice positive, peaceful connections with their teachers and classmates.

The activities include pouring, spooning, scrubbing, table washing, buttoning, polishing, eye-hand coordination and much more

Sensorial

Sensorial learning is the key to help children develop and refine each of their 5 senses and stereo gnostic sense (muscle memory).

Children will learn sorting, discriminating, sequencing, categorizing, and problem-solving. These materials are the groundwork to math especially geometry and critical thinking.

Some examples of Sensorial activities are the Pink tower, Brown Stairs, Knobbed and Knobbles cylinders, Geometric solids, matching weights, smell tastes, touch tablets, sound cylinders and more.

Language

The Language materials introduce the children to several pre language lessons before they are introduced to sounds and reading. Using Objects and pictures cards for Naming, Opposites, Rhyming etc, increases the diction. Sandpaper letters allow them to see and hear each sound of the alphabet. When they are familiar with their sounds then the moveable alphabets lead towards reading. Once the child is able to blend sounds together, they are given 3 letter words, short and long vowel words, phonograms, and parts of speech.

“Sky is the limit for language materials”

Math

Math is an understanding from concrete work with materials to abstract work.

The children are introduced to “zero” which means nothing. There are several materials that teach them the basic numbers 0-9. The children then move on to teens, tens, Hundreds to more advanced concepts of units, tens, hundreds, and thousands.

Our 4-year-old and kindergarten children start with simple math concepts like Addition, Subtraction and move to Multiplication and Division, Time, Fraction and Money.

Science

Science activities are nature-based, and include the study of Plants, Animals and Human Body. Children learn about vertebrate and invertebrate animals, Living and Non-living, a variety of plant types. Children explore science with hands on experiments. Love and respect for all life are emphasized.

Geography

Children learn the 7 continents; the countries present in them using wooden puzzle maps. They learn about different cultures, people around the world, events from history, international celebrations throughout the year.

Cultural Studies

This area of the Montessori in Primary classroom is made up of several topics: Art, Music, Spanish, and Peace.

They explore art with paint, collage, cutting and gluing, and sewing.

Children love to sing, and music can be heard in every classroom, as children both make music and move to music.

Children learn Spanish as a language learning their phonic, numbers, colors and more.

Peace is an important part of any Montessori environment, as our goal is to help children find peace within themselves, and to find peaceful ways to interact with those around them.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at this daycare. The teachers truly care about the children and are passionate about what they do. They are warm, patient, and incredibly attentive. We’ve seen such positive development in our child, both socially and emotionally, thanks to the supportive and structured environment the teachers provide. If you’re looking for a daycare where your child will be cared for, supported, and truly valued, this is an exceptional choice. The teachers make all the difference. (Especially Ms Jyoti and Ms Tina)

I love Montessori Children’s Center Herndon! We just moved to the U.S., so my 4-year-old son and I toured lots of preschools in the Herndon area. When my son first visited this preschool, he really loved the large playground. There are lots of playground equipment for the children, and they play outside every day. Playing outside is always one of the first things my son tells me about when I ask him about school. The classrooms are also very clean and well organized. The children wear indoor shoes and can choose the Montessori materials they want to work with by themselves. The teachers are very patient and always help when the children need support. The teachers are also very kind and thoughtful. Since we just moved to the U.S. from South Korea, my son only speaks Korean right now. The teachers have been very helpful in helping him adjust to preschool life. One of the Montessori 4 teachers, Ms. Salmah, even bought a Korean Words book for my son. I was so touched by her thoughtfulness and really appreciated it. I’m also very thankful to Ms. Manjeet and Ms. Shelby for warmly welcoming my son every day. There are also so many different programs and activities that help the children grow. My son really enjoys the variety of activities he does every day. The teachers share photos with us, and he brings home his work on Fridays, so my husband and I can see what he has been doing and how much he is growing. We are very happy with Montessori Children’s Center, and I highly recommend this preschool to parents who are looking for a clean, well-organized, and nurturing environment where their children can learn and grow independently, with warm and thoughtful teachers who truly care about each child.

Our children have thrived while enrolled in this wonderful school. Two of our three children attended this school for four years and our only wish was that we had found MCC in time for our oldest child. Our children's emotional and social development were nurtured through daily interactions with staff and classmates during group activities and hands on projects. Their manners were reinforced through meals and snacks as well as special activities such as tea time. As part of the academic curriculum, both of our children were able to read, write complete sentences, add, subtract and multiply before going to kindergarten. Our son even learned how to divide. They engaged in projects and conversations around the environment, geography, explorers, planets, space, as well as countries and cultures of the world. At each turn our children's curiosity was encouraged and indulged. They were challenged in a way that allowed them to experience success but to reach just beyond their comfort zone. We cannot say enough good things about this school. Your child(ren) will be well educated and cared for at this school.

I was very nervous when I was touring for the best match for my first born at the age of 2 in 2014. She had been only cared for by her grand mother, being the only child in the family was extremely pampered. At my very first visit, after meeting the owner/administrator I cancelled all my appointments at the other schools for the day. My mind was at ease. And the my stay there for the next 3 years only made me love the entire crew more. They took care of my child like their own. Loved her, took care of her, guided her and were firm with her when needed. For first two months she wouldn't leave her class teacher alone and she stayed back during her lunch break with my daughter until she got comfortable with other teachers. She was very shy, and wouldn't ask for help. Her teachers recognized that and encouraged her to challenge herself. Now just turning 5, she can add, subtract, multiply and divide (small number) and read. I can go on and on. I think anyone looking for a family oriented, clean and safe environment for their kids should opt for this place.

This school is amazing. Our son was here from infant to two years old before we moved. They treated him and us like family, and they helped raise our son to be a moral kid, with a great attitude that is kind to others. Beyond that, he is advanced now in his learning and knows two languages going into years old. I highly recommend this school to everyone! Exceptional people that have high moral standards for themselves and our child!

I’ve been so impressed with MCC. The staff is knowledgeable, caring, and truly dedicated to supporting every student. Our children’s teachers, Mrs. Fatima and Mrs. Tela, are amazing—so loving and committed to their students (my little one absolutely adores them!). They contribute so much to early development, which is so essential for future success. They really set a positive tone for the school, and the whole team is always there to help. Mrs. Absi, the director, is fantastic. She’s always been incredibly supportive of us as parents and has a real sense of what’s going on with the students. It’s comforting to know that she’s got everything under control, and it gives me a real sense of security. Her leadership creates such a warm and positive environment for both students and staff. Mrs. Lilian and Mrs. Ola are incredibly supportive, creative, and focused on the academic growth of the children. They truly care about each student’s development, and their energy makes the school such a special place. I’ve seen consistent growth and progress in my children, and it’s clear that the school is focused on continuous improvement in everything they do. I also really appreciate how open and communicative they are with parents, always keeping me updated on my kids’ progress. MCC does an incredible job balancing academic excellence with personal care, and I’m so happy with the environment they’ve created. I’d highly recommend MCC to any family looking for a school that genuinely cares about its students. Thank you to all the teachers for your dedication to our children !

It was so hard to find child care in northern Virginia, even though we started looking while only 4 months pregnant! Everyone already had a waitlist. I was thrilled to find that MCC, only a mile from my home, had exactly the care I was hoping that for and would be available when we needed it! My son started at only 3 months old, and I was glad to be allowed to spend the day with him and the teachers there before having to leave him alone. As a first time mom, I was grateful to his teachers (who had kids of their own) for advice and recommendations on creams, routines, and more! Even though there are separate infant and toddler rooms, at the end of the day when I pick up my son they have them all together in the great room. I know my son’s motor development benefitted from watching the slightly older babies run and play! I also love that it is a multi-lingual environment! On the days I got to hang around, I heard the teachers sing to the infants the names of colors in Spanish and English. I think that is so good for brain development! My favorite thing though was that every holiday the teachers used his hand or foot print in a craft!! I thought I’d have to wait a few more years to hang his art around my house, so these projects are so special to me! We are only leaving now because my job is taking us out of state. I wish my son could continue to grow at MCC, and take part in the extracurriculars and summer programs offered! We will certainly miss all his teachers who have become like family!

Montessori Children’s Center has been an outstanding experience for our family. Since my son started, the growth we’ve seen in him has been remarkable. His knowledge has advanced significantly, and he’s become much more confident in himself and his abilities. What stands out the most is how much his social skills have improved—he interacts more comfortably with others and shows a level of independence that truly reflects the Montessori approach. The teachers create a nurturing and structured environment that encourages learning at each child’s pace, and it clearly makes a difference. We’re very grateful for the care, attention, and dedication they provide every day. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a supportive and enriching educational environment.

Montessori Children's Center is a commendable center for kids daycare. I love this place, i deeply appreciate the staff being so nice and really cares about the children and works with the parents. I’m grateful for their hours and execution, facility opened for 10 hours really helps especially since not everyone works a 9-5 job. The facility is well thought of, rooms separated to keep the ages apart. My youngest son is happy and that makes me a happy parent. I sent my eldest son in the past, We all like this center utmost. -- Bhanu
